Batman DC Direct 1/6 scale

Rounding up DC's top three characters (the other two are Superman and Green Lantern) in their DC Direct 1/6 scale line is Batman.

It has the right amount of accessories, and it features Batman in his classic black and gray costume.

Batman's articulation, just like any DC Direct 1/6 scale figure, is a very respectable 28 points. It is no secret that DC Direct uses the same body mold for all their (adult) male 1/6 figures, they just change the head sculpts and give each their appropriate costume.

I highly recommend getting THIS Batman figure, because, even if DC Direct did release a subsequent comic book version Batman figure for their 1/6 scale line, it was in it's silver-age costume (black shadow cowl paint). I have nothing against that version of Batman, since I like every incarnation of the character, but the 90s version seem more bad ass.

Hmmmm, I do prespire wearing this costume and fighting insane villains all night long, I am bound to reek in my bat-armpits.

Well, that is it for now. I will continue posting on my blog in a few days. I will be going somewhere, and I will have no internet access. Look forward to more Voltron, Voltes V, and other robots next time. See you guys in about a week.

He-man and Skeletor 1/6 scale rotocast

I do not really have much to say about these figures, except they are very affordable, and they are very fun to play with. The He-man figure is his "Snake-men" outfit, which he wore most of the second season of the (new) He-man and The Masters of the Universe cartoon.

Sean Connery James Bond 1/6 scale Sideshow

I will be upfront, and confess, I have never seen Sean Connery's James Bond movies. The only reason I bought this is because a local toy shop was closing, and they were selling this for less than $12. I thought, wow, a 12 inch toy for $12 bucks? Must be fate. So, I got it. And I was not disappointed.
From the pictures on thebox, the figure has an uncanny resemblance to Connery. I like that there are a lot of accessories included, even a vodka bottle, shaker, and glass. Awesome.
I dunno, I never thought of Sean as being suave enough to play James Bond. He looks more like Mr. Bean on this figure. But he is far more good looking than Daniel Craig, so, I guess it's still all good. Now, Pierce Brosnan, THAT is James Bond.

I like the Ursula Andres picture at the back. Hmmmmmm...Undress...

Voltron Toynami first edition diecast toy

This is a gorgeous looking toy. I will review this fully with the second edition non-diecast toy released by Toynami later. I just can't bring myself to open the diecast version, one, because it is too expensive, two, because it is limited.

Robotech VF-1S 1/55 scale Toynami

This is the Toynami rendition of Roy Fokker's famous VF-1S. There have been other incarnations of the Robotech Valkyries, which I need not say, were from the Macross toys by Takatouku, then later on by Bandai. This series by Toynami has the honor of being the first to feature transforming Valkyries for the American market. There were transforming Macross Valkyries, but not Robotech Valkyries.
This is in the same scale as the Takatouku/Bandai released Macross Valkyries, 1/55 scale. But it has sleeker proportions, than the chunky Valkyries initially released in the 80s, and will be re-released in the 90s, and in the new millenium.

This toys has been criticized for having "quality control" issues. But, you cannot deny that it looks very good. Besides, i never opened them, so, it's all good. Ignorance is bliss.

This toy is limited to 15,000 pcs in the world, which could account for its rarity. Among the Robotech Toynami 1/55 toys, Fokker's VF-1S is the hardest to find.

Check out the killer smile.

Green Lantern Hal Jordan 1/6 scale DC Direct first edition

Another personal favorite. DC Direct 1/6 scale Hal Jordan figure.
Some douche wanted to buy this from me, he was even willing to buy all my DC Direct 1/6 scale figures just to get it. Ordinarily, I would have agreed. I know DC will somehow re-issue it in some form or another (and they did, with a different costume, along with other GL heads), but I hated that guy, so I didn't sell.

The sculpt is awesome, although, I would have liked it even more if Hal was not so serious looking, he even looks angry. I like the fun-loving Hal. It has removable mask, interchangable hands, a base, and his lantern, which lights up. All very kewl.

Check out his evil eyes. Hehe, come on Hal, smile for the camera.

The Hal Jordan figure is very popular among collectors. It is currently priced at $210 for mint-in-package, at Toyfare Price Guide's latest issue (February 2009). Of course, time will tell if the price will hold, given that DC Direct recently released another Hal Jordan 1/6 scale figure, but with a new costume, and other GL heads, which you can use to swap with the Hal head, so you can have other GLs to play with. Even if I think that is a cool play feature, I really do not know other GLs except Hal, Kyle, Guy and John. So, DC Direct released heads of those GLs, I would have been on that thing like Kobe on a blackmailing slut. Will I get the new GL 1/6? Probably not. I am perfectly happy with this one, and I did manage to get a pretty good deal with this one. I got it at 20% off retail from a toy convention. Pretty sweet.

Ultimate Ironman Marvel Select

Here is the most sought after figure from the Marvel Select series, Ultimate Ironman.
What makes it so desirable to toy collectors? Well, not only is it the first figure of Ultimate Tony Stark, it is superior to the one released by Hasbro in the Marvel Legends line. The figure's sculpt is spot on. It may be larger than most Marvel Legends figures, but if you consider that there is supposed to be a 6ft man inside a very bulky armor, then Ultimate Ironman should tower over regular 6 inch figures.

In Toyfare #138, a mint-on-card Ultimate Ironman figure is listed at $75, but good luck finding one.

Superman 1/6 scale DC Direct

Simply put, this is the best DC Direct Superman. It is sculpted in his classic look. The uniform s perfect. It has Clark Kent's suit and tie. It has his boxers!

Even if it is slightly taller than regular 1/6 scale figures, because I do not know what sort of Shaq-sized sculptors they have out there at DC, but all their 1/6 scale figures are almost 13 inches, but the fact of the matter is, Superman is one big character. He is 6'4. So, it stands to reason that his figure should tower over almost everybody, well, except Thor (who is 6'6), or that big dumb green gorilla Hulk, whose size seem to fluctuate the angrier he gets, the more his pants expands (and defies reality by not tearing).

Check out Supes' threads. This figure is really worth getting. It immediately sold out, because it is limited to only 5000 pcs. Once it is gone, it's gone.

DC Direct released another comicbook version of Superman in the 1/6 scale, but it has a different headsculpt, and none of the "super-cool" accessories, except his basic costume.

Ultimate Thor Marvel Select

Here is the hippie, flower power, nature lover, member of the Ultimates, an alternate reality version of the Avengers, Ultimate Thor. The character has his own unique charm, I suppose, but nothing beats the original. This figure is very popular, however, because it is very rare. A loose figure has been known to sell for as much as $50. Finding a mint-in-sealed-card is very difficult, and it seldom appear on ebay. What makes this figure worth owning is that, it is the only rendition of Bryan Hitch's version of Ultimate Thor. Later in the comics, Joe Madureira redesigned the costume, similar to its 616 counterpart. But, as most Ultimates fans, I prefer Hitch's version. It sets it apart from 616 Thor, and the hammer looks so much more intimidating.

The figure has a fallen Hank Pym base, and his signature hammer. It has more articulation than early Marvel Select figure, but it is nowhere near the amount of artculation that an average Marvel Legends figure has. But it is more articulated than your average DC Direct figure, so, this figure is alright. I doubt we will have another version of this guy in Marvel Legends, so, if you are a fan of the original Ultimates, this figure is a must have.

Thanos Marvel Select

There have been a few Thanos figures released by Toybiz over the years (I have a few, I may post them sometime in the future, but they are in storage at the moment), such as the Fantastic Four Animated figures version, and the Silver Surfer Animated figures. However, those figures, cool though they may be, have never really captured the mad god titan in all his pycho-death loving glory, until Marvel Select. There is one A-list villain character noticeably missing in the Marvel Legends collection, and that s Thanos. I mean, how many Hulk figures to we have to suffer before we see a Thanos fgure already? The Hulk is just a big green dumb gorilla (both movies bombed, Marvel). Quit promoting the douche already. Anyway, I digress, still can't believe how Lionsgate pimped out Thor just to make the Hulk look good in the Hulk Versus DVD (do not buy that piece of biased crap). Anyway, since Thanos here do not have a Marvel Legends figure, the Marvel Select is a very nice alternative. It has almost the same number of articulation, and the materials used are top notch. The sculpting is perfect, it really captures Jim Starlin's favorite baby, in all his genocidal glory. The paint quality control is the problem. I had to sift through a lot of Thanos just to find three perfectly painted pieces (hehe, see what I did there?). Anyway, this figure will fit in very well with your Marvel Legends, even if he is a bit huge, because, Thanos is supposed to be big. Thanos is certainly almost Hulk size. But Thanos has more depth in his few appearances than that gigantic green gorilla will ever have. Highly recommended.

Optimus Prime Generation 1

Which is the best Optimus Prime figure? I am sorry, but, no matter what continuity they have, there is only one Optimus Prime, and that is the one from the 80s cartoon. Here are two renditions of the Optimus Prime-one is the G1 vintage look (here in the Dreamwave boxe and the latest Encore box), and second is the Masterpiece Optimus Prime. Which is better?

Even if Masterpiece Optimus here is well detailed, and is faithful to the cartoon series, because I look at things with rosey colored glasses of nostalgia, I prefer the vintage look.

But you have to admit, Masterpiece Optimus is ohhhh soooo seeeeexxxaaay.

Combattler V vintage ST and others

Here is a vintage Combattler V toy by Popy. This is the "st" version, which some says, it means "standard version", as opposed to the "DX" or "deluxe" (big) version. However, the letters "st" on the box really just mean that it has passed safety standards, and not to differentiate it with the big (dx) toy.

Combattler in this picture is with the smaller version released by Bandai a few years ago, which replicates the vintage st version, almost identically, except, it is much smaller. How much smaller? Glad you asked. Check the next picture.

Here are three different Combattlers. The big one on the left is the vintage ST version by Popy. The one on the right is the mini-version of the ST toy, released by Bandai. And the one on top is just a mini diecast toy issued by Mattel.
Oh, hey, check out Combattler. he looks awesome, because he is. The paint is still very crisp. No hint of discoloration, or chipping. The chrome parts are very shiny, no rust, whatsoever. I am very pleased with this toy. I do not know how I got it. I just saw it recently when i went to my parent's house, and found it in my "messy room" (featured in this blog).

It still has the original paperwork, although there are some discoloration on the paper, given that it is very old.

This is the back of the box.
You know what, i liked looking at ST Combattler so much, I think I will feature also ST Voltes V. But, more on that next time I go back to my parent's house.
By the way, I would love to feature the Soul of Chogokin Combattler V, however, it is stuck somewhere in one of those big shipping boxes, and I do not have any idea which box it is in. If I manage to buy more cabinets to store my toys, i think I will do a quick entry of that toy in this blog.

Thor Bowen 1/6 scale statue

Thor, the god of thunder, Son of Odin, lord of the living lightning, the mightiest warrior in all of mythology. Faithfully rendered in his classic costume by the amazing sculptors at Bowen. Limited to 3000pcs. Even if by statue standards that is hardly rare, this is one hard staue to find. I got this from a friend of mine, who apparently do not like Thor very much if he decided to sell it. But I welcome it with open arms. More Thor related staues to follow soon. I will show you Odin and Loki soon. But there are more toys to feature, so, those will have to wait.
